Fine Art & Exhibition Logistics

Art fair logistics is a high-stakes, deadline-critical discipline requiring specialist packing, precise condition reporting, coordinated multi-gallery scheduling, and complete chain-of-custody documentation. The Investec Cape Town Art Fair is South Africa’s premier international art event, held annually at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, attracting galleries and collectors from across Africa, Europe, and beyond. JLog is the official logistics carrier for the Investec Cape Town Art Fair, providing crating, transport, venue receiving, and deinstallation return shipping for participating galleries. Art fair works arriving from international galleries require South African customs import entries and SAHRA permits where applicable for heritage objects.

Entity definition | Art fair logistics in South Africa

What Art Fair Logistics Involves

Art fair logistics is fundamentally different from standard art shipping. A shipping job can take weeks or months; an art fair shipment runs on an absolute deadline. A standard consignment moves from A to B; an art fair coordinates fifteen galleries, two hundred works, and a three-day installation window, with no room for error.

The complexity compounds when you add international works. A painting shipped from a London gallery arrives in South Africa as a formal customs entry. It must clear import duty, pass SAHRA assessment if it qualifies as a heritage object, and be delivered to the fair venue. The work must be unpacked, condition-checked against the gallery’s pre-shipment documentation, and positioned exactly as the gallery specifies — all within a tight installation schedule alongside works from twelve other galleries.

Then the fair opens. Works are exposed to venue traffic, environmental changes, and handling by collectors. On day four, the fair closes. Sold works must be deinstalled, condition-checked again, packed for their buyers, and dispatched — many internationally. Unsold works are returned or placed in secure storage. Everything is documented at each stage.

This is what makes art fair logistics different: the stakes are visible, the deadlines are absolute, and the reputation for precision is everything. JLog has managed Investec Cape Town Art Fair logistics for multiple years. We know exactly what it takes.

The Art Fair Logistics Timeline

A successful art fair logistics operation unfolds across six phases, each with specific responsibilities and deadlines. Here’s how JLog manages the complete journey.

Phase 1
3–4 months out

Planning

JLog meets with gallery representatives to confirm work count, dimensions, origins (international or domestic), crating requirements, and customs considerations for incoming international works. For galleries exhibiting internationally, we advise on ATA carnet requirements and assess heritage object implications. Timelines and logistics touchpoints are documented. We coordinate customs documentation and arrange transport scheduling.

Phase 2
6–8 weeks out

Crating & Preparation

Custom timber crates are built to specification for each work. Domestic galleries deliver works to JLog’s workshop; condition reports are recorded at each gallery with photography. International works arrive via DHL or FedEx; JLog processes formal South African customs import entries on arrival, clears ATA carnets, and arranges SAHRA assessment where required. International works are held in secure storage pending venue transport.

Phase 3
1–2 weeks out

Transport to Venue

All works are collected from galleries, JLog workshops, and secure storage. Transport is scheduled to the Cape Town International Convention Centre (or the fair venue) on a just-in-time basis to avoid on-site congestion. JLog maintains a live manifest tracking all deliveries. Works are condition-checked on arrival at the venue; photographic evidence is recorded.

Phase 4
Installation week

Venue Receiving & Setup

JLog’s logistics team is present at the venue during the three-day installation period. We supervise unpacking, condition sign-off with gallery representatives, and coordinate placement per gallery requirements. Any condition discrepancies are flagged immediately and documented. We maintain an on-site depot for any rapid logistics adjustments or emergency packing needs.

Phase 5
Fair open

Standby & On-Call Support

JLog remains on call during the fair. If a work requires re-packing, relocation, or emergency repair, we respond. We monitor security and condition throughout the exhibition period. Our team is available to gallery staff and collectors with any logistics questions.

Phase 6
Post-fair

Deinstallation & Dispatch

On fair close, rapid deinstallation begins. Sold works are identified, condition-checked against pre-installation reports, and packed for dispatch to buyers. Unsold works are either returned to originating galleries or placed in secure storage. International returns are cleared through customs export procedures. Dispatch targets are 48 hours from fair close where possible. All documentation is archived for gallery and collector records.

For South African Galleries

If you are a South African gallery participating in the Investec Cape Town Art Fair, JLog manages the complete logistics chain on your behalf. Here’s what we handle:

Pre-fair Condition Reporting

We visit your gallery 4–6 weeks before the fair, inspect all works, and create detailed condition reports with photography. This becomes the baseline for post-fair verification.

Custom Timber Crating

Each work is crated to the fair’s specific dimensions and transport requirements. Custom timber construction is built to museum standards, with padding, insulation, and secure fastenings.

Transport to Venue

We collect all crated works from your gallery and transport them to the Cape Town International Convention Centre on agreed dates, avoiding installation bottlenecks.

Receiving & Condition Check

At the venue, JLog unpacks, inspects, and condition-signs all your works with your gallery representative. Any discrepancies are flagged and documented immediately.

Post-fair Return to Gallery

Unsold works are deinstalled, condition-verified against the original report, and returned to your gallery in crates. We coordinate delivery timing with your staff.

Sold Works — National & International Dispatch

For works that sell, JLog handles deinstallation, packing, and white-glove delivery to buyers in Cape Town, nationally, or internationally. Export documentation is prepared for overseas shipments.

For South African galleries, the advantage is simple: you confirm your exhibition list, deliver works to JLog, and we handle all logistics from that point forward. You attend the fair focused on selling and building relationships. We handle the risk, the scheduling, and the documentation.

For International Galleries

If you are an international gallery shipping works to the Investec Cape Town Art Fair, JLog acts as your South Africa-side logistics agent. We manage every step from port of entry to fair venue and beyond.

Customs Clearance on Arrival

Works arriving from Europe, the USA, or other regions enter South Africa as formal customs declarations. JLog processes the import entry, calculates duty where applicable, and manages ATA carnet processing if your works are covered by an international exhibition carnet. We coordinate with SARS (South African Revenue Service) and arrange secure storage if required pending venue transport.

SAHRA Assessment

Any work that may qualify as a South African heritage object (historical art, artefacts, or pieces with South African cultural significance) requires SAHRA (South African Heritage Resources Agency) assessment. JLog advises on SAHRA implications and manages the permit application process on your behalf.

Secure Storage & Logistics Hub

International works may be held in secure storage while awaiting final venue delivery. JLog coordinates the handoff to the fair venue.

Transport to Fair Venue

On agreed dates, we transport all your works from the South African port of entry directly to the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Our logistics team unpacks, condition-checks, and signs off with your gallery representative on arrival.

Return Customs Export Clearance

After the fair, unsold international works are re-exported under JLog’s customs clearance. We process export documentation, arrange transport to the South African port or airport, and coordinate the return shipment via DHL or FedEx to your gallery.

For international galleries, this means you ship works to JLog in South Africa, we manage all customs, storage, and venue coordination, and you receive updates throughout. There is no customs or logistics management required on your end. JLog is your single point of contact for all South African formalities.

Sold Works — What Happens After the Fair

When a work sells at an art fair, the logistics complexity increases dramatically. The work must be deinstalled cleanly and carefully, condition-checked against the pre-installation report to ensure no damage occurred during exhibition, packed appropriately for the buyer’s destination, and dispatched. For international buyers, this means preparing export documentation, arranging customs clearance at the destination country, and delivering the work white-glove to the collector’s home or storage facility.

JLog manages sold work dispatch directly from the fair venue. During deinstallation, we work with gallery representatives to identify sold versus returning works. Each sold piece is condition-verified, photographed, and repacked to exacting standards. We verify the buyer’s delivery address and destination country, prepare all export and customs documentation, and arrange courier dispatch within 48 hours of fair close where possible. For works destined to collectors in Cape Town, we offer same-week white-glove delivery. For national destinations, we coordinate with our partner couriers (FedEx or DHL) for next-day arrival. For international buyers, we prepare full export documentation, arrange transit insurance at the declared value, and deliver white-glove to the buyer’s specified address.

The result is that galleries can sell with confidence. Once a collector has committed to a work, that work is JLog’s responsibility. The gallery doesn’t coordinate packing, customs, or courier logistics — we do. This allows galleries to focus entirely on the sale and the collector relationship, not on the logistics of getting the work across the world.

Chain of Custody Documentation

Every art fair shipment is a legal and financial commitment. JLog creates and maintains complete documentation for every work, from origin to final delivery. Here’s what you receive:

Condition Report at Origin

Photographed condition assessment at the originating gallery, including surface condition, frame integrity, and any pre-existing marks or repairs.

Packing List (Per Crate)

Detailed inventory of works per crate, with dimensions, artist, title, and price. Crates are numbered and tracked throughout the fair.

Transport Manifest

Live tracking of all works en route to the fair venue, with vehicle details, GPS coordinates, and delivery timestamps.

Venue Receiving Sign-Off

Photographic condition verification at the fair venue, signed by JLog staff and gallery representative. Any discrepancies are flagged in writing.

Deinstallation Condition Report

Post-fair condition assessment, comparing the work’s condition to the pre-installation report. Any marks, damage, or changes are documented.

Return or Dispatch Documentation

For returned works: gallery receiving sign-off. For sold works: buyer confirmation, customs export documentation, and courier receipt of dispatch.

This documentation is provided to galleries and collectors in PDF format, archived for insurance purposes, and retained by JLog for 7 years. It creates a complete legal record of the work’s condition, custody, and handling throughout the art fair logistics cycle.

“The Investec Cape Town Art Fair is where we earn our reputation every year. Fifteen galleries, two hundred works, a three-day installation window, and an absolute hard deadline. There’s no room for a missed pickup or an unlabelled crate. We’ve been doing it long enough that the galleries trust us completely — and that trust is everything in this industry.”
— Gerrit Dyman, Founder, JLog

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I arrange art fair logistics?

Planning should start 3–4 months before the fair for complex multi-work international consignments. This allows time for customs pre-clearance, SAHRA assessment, and crate construction. Domestic gallery logistics can typically be arranged 4–6 weeks out. However, we recommend contacting JLog as early as possible if you are participating in the Investec Cape Town Art Fair. Early coordination ensures we can reserve transport capacity and avoid last-minute scheduling conflicts.

Does JLog handle customs clearance for international works arriving for an art fair?

Yes. JLog processes South African import customs entries for international works arriving for the fair. We manage ATA carnet processing, formal import entries with SARS, duty calculations, and SAHRA heritage assessment where required. We coordinate the customs documentation for each consignment. You simply provide us with the gallery’s shipper details, and we manage South Africa-side formalities from port of entry to fair venue.

What happens to unsold works after the fair?

Unsold works are deinstalled, condition-checked against the pre-installation report, and either returned to the originating gallery or placed in secure storage pending further instructions. For domestic works, we deliver returns to the gallery within 5 business days of fair close. For international works, we arrange re-export customs clearance and coordinate return shipment via DHL or FedEx. Storage is available if a gallery wishes to hold works for a future fair or collection event.

Can JLog dispatch sold works directly from the fair to buyers?

Yes. JLog dispatches sold works directly from fair deinstallation. We work with gallery representatives to identify sold versus returning works, condition-check each sold piece, and prepare it for delivery to the buyer. For buyers in Cape Town, we offer white-glove delivery within 3 business days. For national buyers, we coordinate with FedEx or DHL for next-day arrival. For international buyers, we prepare export documentation, transit insurance, and white-glove delivery to the collector’s address. Dispatch happens within 48 hours of fair close where possible.

What is an ATA carnet and when is it used for art fair logistics?

An ATA carnet is an international customs document that allows temporary export and re-import of goods — including artworks — for exhibition purposes without paying import duties. Galleries exhibiting internationally often hold an ATA carnet for their works. If a European gallery’s works are covered by an ATA carnet, JLog advises on the carnet requirements for South African import and manages SA-side customs formalities. If a gallery does not hold a carnet, we process a standard customs import entry and calculate any applicable duty. Early notification allows us to advise on the most cost-effective approach.

Does JLog work with galleries outside Cape Town for the Investec Art Fair?

Yes. JLog collects works from galleries in Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria, and other South African cities for Investec Cape Town Art Fair participation. We arrange collection timing, transport crates, and deliver to the fair venue on schedule. We also coordinate with international logistics partners for galleries shipping works from Europe, the USA, Australia, and other regions. Whether your gallery is in Cape Town or across South Africa, JLog manages the logistics chain from origin to venue and back.

  • Storage invoices are sent separately if extended storage is used
  • Booking too late: Art fair logistics capacity fills up 8–10 weeks before the fair. Late bookings may be refused or rushed, risking quality.
  • Incomplete artwork lists: Vague descriptions (“painting, various sizes”) lead to packing errors. Provide exact dimensions, weights, and medium for each work.

JLog’s appointment as official logistics carrier for CTAF isn’t a marketing title — it carries real, practical advantages for exhibitors:

Because we’re integral to CTAF’s logistics infrastructure, we understand the fair’s rhythm, security protocols, and contingencies. A lighting failure, a booth adjustment, a courier arrival — we know how to navigate these situations within the fair’s framework.

JLog is based at Unit 12C, Nearby Industrial Park, 10 Railway Street, Woodstock — inside the Cape Town Design District itself. We’re surrounded by design studios, galleries, furniture makers, ceramics workshops, and creative agencies. We’re not a distant logistics company serving the Design District. We’re part of it.

The area comprising Woodstock, Salt River, Observatory, and parts of the CBD fringe has become Cape Town’s creative and design heart over the past 15 years. Former industrial buildings have been converted into studios, workshops, galleries, and creative agencies. The Design District is home to South Africa’s most innovative furniture makers, ceramicists, textiles designers, interior designers, architects, and contemporary galleries.

Key locations and streets in the Design District include Albert Road in Woodstock (galleries, design agencies, studios), Sir Lowry Road (industrial-chic studios and showrooms), the Salt River and Voortrekker Road precinct (ceramics, furniture manufacturing and design workshops), Observatory Main Road (independent studios and creative businesses), the Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock (the Saturday market, design shops, and creative offices), and Woodstock Exchange (design studios, co-working spaces, and creative businesses).

The Old Biscuit Mill on Albert Road, Woodstock, has become one of Cape Town’s most important creative hubs. Many of South Africa’s best-known designers and makers have studios or retail spaces here — from furniture makers to ceramicists to design agencies. The Saturday market draws thousands of visitors looking for unique, locally-made goods.

Alongside the established gallery cluster on Upper Long Street, Woodstock and Salt River have developed a vibrant contemporary gallery scene. More galleries are opening in the Design District, recognizing that collectors and curators increasingly visit Woodstock for contemporary art just as they visit Long Street.

Design District galleries often operate in converted industrial spaces with unique loading requirements, narrow staircases, or limited access. A distant logistics company unfamiliar with the building might arrive with the wrong equipment, damage the building or artwork, or miss the delivery window entirely. JLog knows these buildings, understands the access constraints, and arrives prepared.

Handmade ceramics, sculptural pieces, original artworks, bespoke furniture, and delicate textiles are not freight. They’re creative work, often irreplaceable and always valuable. These pieces demand specialist handling that generic courier networks simply don’t provide.

We work with Design District galleries, studios, and makers every day. We know the businesses here, understand the community, and are invested in its success.

Yes. JLog is based at Unit 12C, Nearby Industrial Park, 10 Railway Street, Woodstock — we’re your neighbours. Yes. JLog provides complete e-commerce fulfilment and dispatch services for designers and makers based in the Design District. If you’re manufacturing or creating products in Salt River or Woodstock, you can drop stock at the JLog warehouse or have it collected. JLog handles pick-pack-dispatch and arranges nationwide delivery, saving you time and space.

Can I use JLog for e-commerce dispatch if I’m based in Salt River?

    From: Open Studios Woodstock

Typically held in November, Open Studios Cape Town invites the public into working artist and designer studios across the city’s creative precincts — primarily Woodstock, Salt River, and Observatory. Visitors walk between studios, meet artists at work, view and often purchase directly from studios. It’s one of the few events where the transaction happens in the creative space itself, not a gallery or fair.

Open Studios is raw and intimate. It’s collectors discovering new makers. It’s emerging artists getting their first sales. It’s the creative community showing itself, unfiltered. And for many Woodstock and Salt River artists, it’s the year’s biggest selling opportunity.

Unlike First Thursdays (which happen in established galleries) or art fairs (which happen in venue event spaces), Open Studios happens in working studios. Many studios are compact, with limited space and no formal loading facilities. Some artists work in shared studio buildings with narrow corridors or multiple flights of stairs. Others work in converted industrial spaces where a piece of furniture barely fits through the door.

This means Open Studios logistics is less about “delivery to a venue” and more about “thoughtful collection and distribution from distributed locations.” You need a logistics partner who understands studio spaces, knows the precincts, and can move fast — because the artist is busy showing visitors, not managing transport.

JLog is based at 10 Railway Street, Woodstock — inside the Open Studios precinct. The Albert Road corridor, the Woodstock Exchange, Sir Lowry Road studios, and many other key Open Studios venues are all within minutes of the JLog warehouse. This isn’t a logistics company servicing the Design District from across the city. It’s a neighbour. It’s someone who walks these streets every day and knows every studio building, every artist, and every loading constraint.

What this means for Open Studios artists: when you need something Friday morning before Open Studios begins Friday evening, it happens. When a collector buys a large print and you need it off your studio wall, JLog is two minutes away. When you want pieces stored safely between Open Studios and other events, they’re stored in the same precinct — not in some industrial park in Bellville.

Open Studios in Woodstock and Salt River has a strong ceramics and craft community. Handmade ceramics are fragile and valuable — which means they can’t go on a standard courier network. JLog has direct experience with ceramic artists, sculptors, and glass makers in the Woodstock precinct. Every piece is photographed, condition-reported, and wrapped with material-specific care. If you sell a ceramic piece on Open Studios night, JLog delivers it to the collector’s home in a condition that says “this was handled by someone who understands clay.”

Yes. Ceramics, glass, textiles, and other fragile handmade work are handled with specialised packaging and care. JLog has experience with the Woodstock and Salt River ceramics community. We photograph every piece, provide condition reports, and use protective materials specific to the material — clay, glaze, or glass don’t get standard courier treatment with us.

From: Cape Town Furniture Design Events

Cape Town has become one of Africa’s most vibrant design cities. The annual calendar of furniture, interior design, and lifestyle events attracts trade visitors, collectors, and consumers from across South Africa and internationally. Whether you’re a designer, furniture maker, interior design brand, or décor manufacturer, the Design District and CTICC event calendar offers multiple opportunities to connect with your market.

    1. Book Early. For CTICC events, 6–8 weeks ahead minimum. CTICC loading bay time slots are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Logistics are not an afterthought — they’re part of your exhibitor plan.

VISI magazine is South Africa’s leading interior design and décor publication. Founded to promote South African design excellence, VISI hosts curated design events, trade presentations, and property and design talks throughout the year in Cape Town and nationally. These events are smaller in scale than Decorex or Design Indaba, but they attract the most design-engaged audience in South Africa — architects, interior designers, property developers, and high-net-worth homeowners.

Cape Town’s furniture and design calendar includes: Investec Cape Town Art Fair (February, CTICC), Design Indaba (late February/early March, CTICC), Decorex Cape Town (mid-year, typically June/July, CTICC), Cape Town Furniture Week (timing varies, multiple venues), VISI design events (throughout the year), Kamers (typically October, Spier Wine Farm), Open Studios (typically November, Design District), and First Thursdays (monthly, various venues). Check official websites for confirmed 2026 dates.

Decorex Cape Town is Africa’s largest interior design and décor expo, held at CTICC with strict freight-in windows and formal show structure. It attracts both trade visitors and consumers. Cape Town Furniture Week features showroom-based and pop-up exhibitions across multiple Cape Town venues, with more flexibility in timing and a focus on design-engaged audiences. Both are important events for designers and furniture makers, but with different logistics requirements.

Yes. VISI magazine hosts design events, trade presentations, and property talks throughout the year at various Cape Town venues. While these are typically smaller in scale than Decorex or Design Indaba, they attract the most design-engaged audience in South Africa — architects, interior designers, and high-net-worth homeowners. JLog can assist with product deliveries and installation pieces for VISI events.

    From: Kamers Logistics

Kamers van Koopman — “Rooms of Wares” — is South Africa’s premier showcase for boutique design and lifestyle brands. Held in Cape Town (typically at Spier Wine Farm, Stellenbosch) and Johannesburg, Kamers features independent jewellery designers, ceramic artists, textile makers, bespoke furniture creators, leather goods designers, and artisan lifestyle brands. It’s the go-to market for interior designers, design professionals, and design-forward consumers shopping for authentic, handmade goods.

Independent jewellery designers. Ceramic and pottery artists. Textile and fabric designers. Bespoke furniture makers. Leather goods designers. Fine art print makers. Candle and fragrance brands. Artisan food and lifestyle makers. Handwoven and knitted textiles. Glass artists.

What they have in common: they make remarkable, thoughtful, often one-of-a-kind pieces. Their work represents months of design, craftsmanship, and investment. Getting it to Kamers safely is non-negotiable.

Unlike large trade shows, Kamers has an intimate, artisanal character. Your entire show-ready stock — a ceramic artist’s hand-thrown collection, a jeweller’s seasonal range, a textile designer’s printed panels — often represents months of creative work. A single damaged piece can affect your entire show mood and sales.

Standard courier networks aren’t designed for handmade, one-of-a-kind, fragile goods. Generic bakkie hire means your ceramics or glassware share a vehicle with industrial equipment. Doing Kamers properly means using a logistics partner who understands the difference between moving a one-of-a-kind ceramic sculpture and moving a pallet of boxes.

We use proper packing materials — bubble wrap, archival tissue, custom-fitted foam. We document condition before and after transport. Our vehicles have suspension and handling designed for sensitive goods. And if anything does go wrong, we’re insured and we document it properly so your claim is straightforward.

JLog provides lockable cases and secure vehicles as standard. If your collection is particularly valuable, flag it when you book and we can arrange additional security measures.

Kamers features a significant furniture and homeware section. Larger pieces — coffee tables, side tables, chairs, storage units, statement mirrors — need blanket-wrapped, dedicated transport. Unlike standard removals companies (which are designed for residential moves), JLog handles boutique furniture with care appropriate to design-market display pieces.

Pricing is based on size and weight, but generally competitive for Cape Town to Stellenbosch delivery.

  • Collection from your studio or workshop: Across Cape Town’s creative neighbourhoods — Woodstock, Salt River, Observatory, the CBD, the Southern Suburbs.
  • From: Cape Town Furniture Week

Cape Town’s annual celebration of furniture design typically happens in late winter or early spring. Unlike CTICC-based expos, Cape Town Furniture Week is distributed across the city — showrooms in De Waterkant, Woodstock, the CBD, and Constantia open their doors, new collections are launched, and buyers come from across South Africa and internationally. It celebrates both established furniture manufacturers and emerging local designers. Think showroom launches, pop-up displays, and trade events rather than a single expo floor.

Here’s the challenge: Furniture Week isn’t like a traditional expo where you load at one dock and unload at another. You’re moving pieces to multiple venues across the city, some in compact showrooms with limited loading access, some arriving for trade days and press previews with zero margin for delay. And if something goes wrong — a piece arrives damaged, a transport is late, or a prototype doesn’t fit through the showroom door — you have no time to recover.

Priority delivery for media launch events. If your press preview is Thursday morning, your collection arrives Wednesday afternoon or early Thursday. No last-minute scrambles.

JLog stores display inventory and samples between show seasons in our secure Woodstock warehouse. Insured and accessible. Monthly storage rates apply.

Contemporary South African furniture maker with a growing international presence. Regular JLog client for trade shows, showroom setups, and export.

Yes. Large pieces, one-off prototypes, delicate veneers, and custom designs are JLog’s speciality. Unlike standard courier networks, we use dedicated vehicles, trained handlers, and protective packaging specifically for furniture. Every piece is photographed and documented. If a prototype is damaged in transit, JLog’s insurance covers it — not your reputation.

Talk to JLog about moving your collection to the showroom, handling press events, or facilitating international sales. We’ve done this before, and we know what matters.

    From: Decorex Cape Town Logistics

Decorex Cape Town is Africa’s premier interior design and décor showcase. Held annually at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), it attracts thousands of trade and consumer visitors, and welcomes exhibitors from across the design world — furniture manufacturers, textile suppliers, lighting designers, kitchen and bathroom specialists, and interior décor brands.

The CTICC operates strict freight-in and breakdown windows. Exhibitors who don’t book logistics early, or who rely on standard courier networks, risk delayed delivery, chaotic stand setup, and damaged goods. Furniture and décor pieces are large, often fragile, and frequently irreplaceable — a single damaged sofa or light fitting can derail your entire show experience.

JLog delivers in your allocated CTICC window. Our team assists with off-loading and stand setup if needed.

Heavy and oversized pieces — dining tables, sofas, cabinets, statement lighting — demand specialist handling. Standard couriers and general bakkie hire aren’t equipped for high-value furniture.

JLog uses blanket-wrapped panel vans, trained two-person delivery teams, and has direct experience moving the exact type of furniture you’re exhibiting. We’ve worked with brands like leading Cape Town galleries and designer furniture makers — household names in the Cape Town design world — and we know how to get a handcrafted sofa or bespoke cabinet to a showroom floor without a scratch.

Lead times: 8–10 weeks for sea freight, 3–4 weeks for air freight. Book with JLog as soon as you confirm your exhibit space.

  • Warehouse staging: Items are held at JLog Woodstock, within immediate delivery range of CTICC — no long hauls on show day.
  • CTICC freight-in: Delivery in your allocated time slot via the correct loading bay. JLog knows the procedures.
  • Specialist furniture and décor transport: Blanket-wrapped items, dedicated vehicles, two-person teams. No shared courier loads.
  • Between-show storage: If you exhibit at multiple events, JLog stores your display materials safely between shows.
  • From: Design Indaba Logistics

Design Indaba is one of the world’s leading creative and design conferences. Held annually in Cape Town, it combines the conference programme at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) with the Simultan festival of emerging creatives — featuring large-scale design installations, experiential pieces, and public artworks. The event attracts international designers, architects, and speakers from across the creative world.

Design Indaba features large-scale installations, one-of-a-kind prototypes, and experiential pieces — many of which are fragile, oversized, or irreplaceable. Combined with CTICC’s strict freight windows and the international nature of many participants, logistics require specialist planning and expertise.

JLog is based in Woodstock, Cape Town — the creative and design precinct of the city. Many of Cape Town’s best-known design studios, creative agencies, and maker spaces are clustered within a few kilometres of our warehouse. Collection from your studio is local work for us, not a long haul.

This means fast turnaround, competitive rates, and a team that understands the local creative community.

  • Local SA designers and design studios exhibiting at Design Indaba
  • Design studios and creative agencies managing brand activations and installations at the event
  • PR and events teams coordinating logistics for Design Indaba installations
  • Studio and workshop collection: Across the Cape Town metro — Woodstock, Salt River, Observatory, CBD, Southern Suburbs. JLog is based in Woodstock, the creative precinct.
  • Oversized installation delivery: Large format pieces, sculptures, display furniture, bespoke installations — we’ve handled it all.
