Fine Art Handling & Documentation
Every piece is handled by fine-art trained staff and photographed on entry. We record dimensions, frame and surface condition, and any existing damage, and update the record on every retrieval, movement, or inspection.
Lighting
All works are stored in darkness or under UV-filtered LED lighting only. There is no incandescent or direct sunlight in the storage area. When you access your work, we use UV-filtered LED task lighting during movement and inspection.

Fine art requires specialist insurance. Standard homeowners or commercial policies exclude high-value artwork or cap coverage at unrealistic limits. JLog works with specialist fine art insurers who understand the South African market.
How Storage Insurance Works
You have two options:
- Coverage under our facility policy: your collection is included under JLog's blanket fine art insurance — the simplest option for short-term storage. Rates are approximately 0.5–1.0% per annum of declared value.
- Coverage under your own policy: you have (or arrange) an existing fine art policy, and JLog acts as bailee. Your insurer covers the collection while in our care, and you keep control of the policy, adding or removing works as needed.
Valuations
We can arrange independent appraisals through partner valuers to establish insurable value. Our valuers are experienced in South African and international art markets and can provide documentation suitable for insurance claims, estate planning, or tax purposes.
Storage Pricing Overview
JLog pricing is transparent. There are no hidden handling fees, access charges, or movement surcharges for routine service.
Monthly storage rates start at a quoted amount for standard 2D works (framed paintings, prints, textiles). Pricing is based on dimensions and storage type. Sculptures and oversized works are priced individually based on space and handling requirements.
Minimum storage period: 3 months. Month-to-month storage is available after the initial 3-month commitment.
Routine access is included: retrieval of a stored work with 24 hours' notice carries no access or handling fee, and movement is logged and documented. Same-day access carries a call-out fee of a quoted amount.
